The Inertia

“Do it again and I’ll put you in the f**king hospital. That’s a promise.” This snippet of a non-local’s unchecked aggression at a UK break is an unfortunate reality in waters worldwide. Standard surf etiquette applies and the longboarder shouldn’t have dropped in on him, but that’s assuming he was in the wrong anyhow. Judging from the tone on this Welsh SUP’er, he appears to have been. Regardless, the way the SUP’er went about approaching the situation was way offsides.

This should be a lesson to all who get burned, as it happens regularly. When it does, and it will, threatening someone’s well being is one of the last things you should do. Who knows, the person you threatened may be waiting for you in the parking lot. They may be a much stronger, tougher person than you. Or they may blow you off making your wasted breath a completely futile exercise. Then you’re the big-headed jerk who couldn’t handle a common, while unfortunate, event that is bound to happen to every surfer.

As it turns out, the burn wasn’t very dangerous. Here’s video of the longboarder’s drop-in.
