The Inertia

A good-sized south swell graced the beaches of Orange County this past week. And among the dozens of nooks and crannies this awesome little swell found its way into, the Wedge in Newport Beach was arguably the spot to be.

The beginning of the week was cursed with poor conditions, as unfavorable winds and overcast skies left most spots a bit wonky and, well, not so appetizing. With a little more west in the swell than ideal for Wedge, a look to west Newport provided some broken up peaks. Friday, the swell had dropped a bit, but the weather provided sunny skies, modest winds, and overall great conditions. The Wedge was clean with some perfect little nuggets rolling through, and a quick look the other way provided some heaving rights. The sand is still moving into place from the winter buildup, but it will soon be shaping up for the big south swells in the coming weeks.
