Style. It is the most important trait of a photographer. Quite simply, it is the reason why one becomes known to the world. Your style is something that takes years, if not decades, to fully develop. Guys like Morgan Maassen and Chris Burkard are heavy hitters in the industry not only due to their sheer skill, but also their unique photographic styles.
To think about it literally, the subject in your photo is the noun and your style is the adjective. I have not arrived at where I want to be with my style, but I have identified what I am striving for. My goal as an image maker is not to document facts but rather reveal the world in a new light. Surfing, both chaotic and fluid, provides numerous ways and techniques to create an image with a distinct style. I intend to capture clean, refreshing imagery with earthy tones and iridescent light. Impacting the viewer on a positive level is always my goal. I’m constantly on the lookout for electric color and strong contrast hidden within nature.
