The Inertia

Just off Sumatra lies the island of Nias. As much of Indonesia is, it is picture-perfect–that same tropical paradise one expects to see on any of the countless “Wish You Were Here” postcards. And at the southern end of Nias, the traveling surfer finds Lagundri Bay, home of the world famous barreling freight train of a wave known as Nias.

Also called Soraki Point, the wave is nearly perfect. Diego Santos, Austin Smith-Ford, Gabriel Sodré, and Alex Wau got a good look at the insides on a spontaneous trip there.
