The Inertia

Jeffreys Bay has been on fire lately, and that’s about par for the course at any wave on the planet the week before it hosts a WSL Championship Tour event. There are times when that’s disastrous. A week of absolutely insane freesurfs featuring the greatest surfers on the planet followed by the ocean shutting itself down as soon as the competition window opens. G-Land in 2022 comes to mind. It was painful.

But J-Bay doesn’t appear to be feeling cruel like that this year. The freesurfs this past week have been all-time. And forecasts point to some potentially great conditions sprinkled here and there throughout the next week as well.

Anyway, back to the waves during those freesurfs. You’ve likely seen plenty of highlights in your social media feed but this particular video gives a perspective we’ve seen less of — one that’s just down the point at Supertubes. From ground level, you can get a feel for the size and the frequency of sets. Nothing is going untouched. And every wave is a leg burner.
