Oahu has some of the most dangerous waves on the planet. Pipeline, of course, is the first that comes to mind, but that’s not the only break that wants to kill you on the island. In fact, you could even make a case for China Walls, on the south shore, being the most deadly spot in the area, and a recent clip showed exactly how that happens.
The incident occurred on June 15 around 6:13 p.m. In a video posted by local community news source HHHNewz, a group of onlookers are watching some fairly massive waves roll in from this most recent south swell, when a woman is knocked over and swept onto the rocks below – with another set barreling in. A nearby surfer drops his board and runs to her aid. Though she manages to get up by the time he arrives, he grabs her backpack for good measure.
It’s a harrowing moment from a spot that Jamie O’Brien once dubbed the most dangerous spot on the south shore. “This is another reminder to never turn your back on the ocean, especially near rocky shoreline areas like China Walls where waves can surge up quickly,” concluded the poster. “Even on days that look manageable, one bigger set can knock someone down, pull them across the rocks, or sweep them into the water.”
