The Inertia

You know that feeling when a set wave has just shoved you down to the bottom and you’re trying to keep the important parts of your body off the reef? That feeling has likely been accompanied by a hard tug on your ankle. If you’re really getting worked, it’s a nice little reminder that up is thataway, but usually it’s just a bit of a nudge in the right direction. Ah, the tombstone. The harbinger of the hold-down. When Uluwatu was the focus of an uptick in swell in late-October, tombstones were a common sight.

‘It was nice to see some swell again yesterday here in Bali,” wrote Surfers of Bali. “And, as always, Uluwatu was feeling it more than most spots …and as always, there were plenty of waves breaking on people’s heads and a few handy hold-downs – nothing serious, but still probably a couple of strokes to the surface.”

Throughout the day, Main Peak was the star of the show, but for a few short hours when the tide dropped out, Racetrack made an effort to steal the spotlight. “It wasn’t spectacular,” SOB continued, “but still better than what we’ve had for a little while.”
