The Volcom House has always been more than just “a house.” It’s a North Shore landmark. It’s exclusive. It’s iconic. It’s a slice of surf culture, all thanks to a great location, a wild reputation, and a slew of chargers who have rested their heads here during their time on the North Shore. For all these reasons just having the opportunity to bunk up in Gerry’s house essentially gives you a stake in the history of the sport.
With that said, the place has a reputation for being a party hub. The rockstar professional surfer image lives on in our minds at least, and it has a home in either that three story dream pad or the team’s other surf shack just a few yards away – both nestled right in front of Pipe, where anything that matters on the North Shore is going to happen.
But for all the sex drugs and rock ‘n roll imagery we give the Volcom House in our dreams the property functions as a breeding ground for up and comers. The life of a professional surfer is filled with living out of a suitcase and board bag, stress to succeed when the jerseys come on, and learning to function far, far away from home. So for the young’ns this isn’t just a big condo on the beach to drop your bags between sessions. It’s a place where younger pros are learning to become full fledged big leaguers. They earn their bed and learn how to play nice. They even learn how to approach the game as professionals here rather than just stoked, hungover bums who just happen to rip. All this is, if nothing more, isa unique look at the Volcom House from that lens.
