The city of Tel Aviv is embarking on a new adventure, hosting the first International Surf Film Festival of Tel Aviv. The festival will tour the city over three nights, hosted by the best venues Tel Aviv has to offer.
Although Israel’s surfing roots date to 1954 (thank you Doc Paskowitz), its popularity only boomed in the past four or five years, experiencing a massive flood of new surfers in the area. The fact that its largest metropolitan city is now hosting its first international surf film festival testifies to the growth of community and surf culture in Israel. Although still small on a global scale, Israel’s thriving local surf community is home to over 40,000 surfers scattered across 200 kilometers of coastline. It’s host to the first competition on the WSL Qualifying Series with the Netanya Pro, making this a hub of Israeli surfing.
