The Inertia

Every year, Salt Creek in Dana Point, California hosts one of the greatest, most unique surf contests in the world. The idea behind the Cosmic Creek is to pay homage and bring back the alternative, more experimental surf era of the 1970s by providing competitors with bitchin’ retro-style thrusters, twinnies, and single fins in a variety of different shapes, colors, and sizes. This year, Vissla stepped up to the plate and easily delivered the best Cosmic Creek to date. “Cosmic has become a soulful grassroots eclectic surf gathering, a celebration of heritage, and a platform to swap ideas about surfboards, music, and art,” said Vissla.

The atmosphere down at the Cosmic Creek was absolutely electric. The sun came out, the surf was pumping, and in addition to the surf action, Grain Surfboards was onsite conducting hand plane workshops where you could create your own custom handplane right on the beach. As if that wasn’t enough excitement, Reverberation Radio was spinning some classic vinyls on the beach while Shwack provided free food and Seaworth Coffee kept everyone jonesin’ on caffeine. If you missed out on the fun this year, check out the epic gallery above and make sure to clear your schedule this time next year for the 15th annual Cosmic Creek.
