For those of you that don’t know, Deus runs one of the best events in surfing. It’s called the 9Ft & Single, and it’s in Canggu, Bali.
It all came about just over six years ago, when a guy named Steve Montell came up with the idea of running an informal event for a bunch of the crew that surfed around Old Man’s and Tugu. Montell wanted it to be a contest on boards that were basically logs–9 foot + with a single fin. It turned into something great. And now, a few years later, it’s turned into a four day party, including way more than just that original logging contest. Movie premieres, body surfing contests, shaper and art shows, and what is quickly becoming Canggu’s biggest party. And it’s still picking up steam.
This year, surfers and shapers from all over the world showed up. Deus, along with filmmaker Andrew Gough, just released a mini documentary about the whole thing–and it really is what surfing is all about.
