From board selection to mental preparations, Carissa Moore and Kolohe Andino are ready to go. Now it’s time to do the damn thing and surf.

In Hawaii, Carissa says goodbye to family, friends, and home, a necessary downside to being a touring surfer. The Hawaiian admits it is always a difficult task, but with a third world title in sight — and the first-ever women’s world tour event at Trestles around the corner — Moore has more than enough reasoning and motivation to know what it’s all for.

In San Clemente, Kolohe gets to kick back after a string of career results — after charging the historic swell Hurricane Marie brought to Southern California, of course. The lay days at home are spent thinning out the competition quiver with pops, then hanging with the boys, from childhood friends in Koa Smith and Ian Crane to legends and idols like Taj Burrow.

The anticipation for the Hurley Pro at Trestles is palpable in this edit. And as an added plus, you have to love the new self-proclaimed title for Dino Andino: “board delivery guy,” and happy to be. Quite the path from pier punk hell-bent on throttling the WCT to anxious helicopter parent to, ultimately, humbled and supportive father.
