The South Bay is quintessential Southern California. The weather and the water are warm enough during the summer that you can’t not trunk it. Most of the beaches are small, closed out, and crowded more days than they’re firing, but somehow a longboard and warm water turn those mornings into the most fun sessions you’ll ever have. Plus, knowing what fall and winter can bring to those same spots reminds us it’s temporary anyway. Suddenly, you’re leaning into it.
And it’ll all be gone soon. This edit is from one of those final days of summer. Sure, autumn doesn’t technically start for several weeks, but with kids returning to school there’s one final surge of activity at the beach on days like this. A fun session with dad. Surf school kids having a blast on the beach. And the ocean isn’t just filled with surfers. There are swimmers, surf kayakers, paddleboarders, and sailboats off in the distance. All out there enjoying the last few days of summer. Enjoy.
