As a surfer, I have always wanted to shoot something with surfing. And while I surf all over the world, my favorite spot is in Malibu, where I have a home. I love the cool people and the laid-back lifestyle there. When Cynthia (of Cynthia Rowley) showed me her wetsuits and swimwear, I knew that the vibrant colors and hip design were perfect for a story following some California girls as they do that time-honored run down to the beach in Malibu to grab an evening surf session… pure magic.
Cynthia surfs as well and we connected over that. Her collection of surf and swimwear is a lot like her — fun, cool and laid back. We thought it would be a great idea to show her clothes and wetsuits in action, on some surfer girls as they run to the beach, have a fun evening session, and then chill out over a bonfire and a beer. It is the story of a classic surf day, the kind we wish we had every day. And it was great to go to work and paddle out with the models while the camera rolled.
