The Maui crew has a habit of surfing on a whole different level than pretty much anyone else. A few years ago, when Matt Meola was just some un-bearded skinny kid that Oxbow sponsored, he was doing things that no one else was even thinking about doing. He, along with Albee Layer, forced the entire surfing world to pick up their air game a notch. And they’re still at it.
In the first episode of a mini series called The Habitat, Albee Layer, Matt Meola, Kai Barger, Tanner Hendrickson, and Imai Devault spent the better part of a winter on Maui that was filled with weird west swells and opposite wind directions. And of course, instead of complaining about how the regular spots weren’t working, they just made them work.
