The Inertia

Surf films are often just a series of Instagram clips slammed together. That’s the way the world works these days. Short attention spans and a glut of available clips every day often take the place of films that have some actual heart behind them. Beyond the Noise is a surf film. Judging from the trailer, it’s going to be more than that, though—it’s going to be a work of art. It won Best Cinematography at the 2018 London Surf Film Festival, and for good reason. Directed and produced by Andrew Kaineder, the film stars Noah Lane and Harrison Roach. “Distracted by realities of our own invention, the natural world becomes invisible, technology is our king,” reads the description. “As the cracks in our society spread, two surfers seek refuge in the vastness of the ocean, away from the deafening clamor of humankind.”
