There will never be an instance where we watch people surfing The Wedge and think to ourselves: “Totally. I’m totally into that. I need to get in the water there during a big South swell ASAP.” It just won’t happen. The Wedge is a special place reserved for thrillseekers, masochists, and individuals who generally make life a more entertaining and awesome thing to live. And we will support the hell out of them as we watch safely from the beach, or computers, (or more likely score waves at an entirely different beach altogether…then watch from our computers).
And Sunday, May 3rd, massive swell returned to Southern California and, as it does, it rocked the Wedge. Before the lifeguards enforced the blackball, some boys with surfboards managed to snag a few and inspire claps and roars from the beach.
And in other news, this video below is probably the only video that makes the Wedge seem peaceful. It is not. Be on the lookout for more images and video from the swell this weekend/week. And if you shot any radical photos or video, send it over and we’ll have a look!

…But does he MAKE it?
