The dirty ol’ Wedge is a terrifying, yet beautiful wave. You need to respect it to ride it. The entire West Coast of the Americas is on fire with a few star spots along the like Puerto Escondido reaching behemoth magnitudes. Due to a few south swells that have already hit the Wedge this year, the sandbar and the swell made for some epic surf. Local Orange County guys like Bobby Okvist Jr. and Johnny Weber were charging some of the biggest surf Newport has seen in 2015. The conditions were pretty epic in the morning until about 10 a.m. when the blackball was put up (so the riders didn’t have to miss out all that much). Here are a few shots taken on Sunday from the legendary swell’s arrival at the lovely Wedge.
