In the SUP world, there a few events that stand out. Molokai-2-Oahu, the Pacific Paddle Games, and of course, Red Bull’s Heavy Water. That last one is probably the craziest. Held in San Francisco, it includes a 7.5-mile open course paddle starting at Ocean Beach and finishing just past the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s not a race for the faint of heart–the waves at Ocean Beach are notoriously heavy, and they’re projected to be in the 10-foot-plus range.
Thirty-two of the world’s best SUP athletes–people like Connor Baxter, Mo Freitas, and Kai Lenny–pit themselves against each other and the elements, and the contest window is open from October 16-31.
