The Inertia

Sunday, December 6th was a wild day on the North Shore. Yes, there was a lot of chatter about “the contest” over on Maui. But for the folks on Oahu, there really wasn’t a sense anybody was missing out on something. Waimea saw no less than 50 surfers in the lineup (and that’s a conservative estimate) on a day that didn’t even push the spot to its limit. The outer reefs were turned on. Pretty much any wave in this seven mile stretch of perfection was reserved for super humans only on this day. This meant a majority of the people staying on or near the North Shore spent the day on land, leaving the riding of waves to the big boys.

Many of those super humans took to Pipe, and deservedly so. Pipe had its moments on Sunday. And even with heavy hearts and thoughts going out to Evan Geiselman while he fought for his life, Pipeline till spat out barrel after barrel after barrel.
