Chicama, Peru has long been regarded as the world’s longest left. What is less known is this wave’s rich ancient history and the accidental discovery of surfing. Chicama, originally named “Mamape,” meaning “the never ending wave,” was home to some of the world’s first surfers, who rode “Totora horses,” a traditional Peruvian surf craft that looks literally impossible to ride.
