Maui spits out talent like nowhere else in the world. Like they say, there must be something in the water. Gabriel Girardin is a 12-year-old whose parents decided to move to Maui from France when he was three months old. His father, Damien, took a job designing for Naish, and Gabe took the first tentative step towards becoming an insanely talented surfer. By the time he was four, he was pushing himself around on a skateboard, honing what would eventually be the foundation for his weirdly good surfing.
He’s got a pretty good life, like most of Maui’s residents: “He spends his days surfing in the morning before and after school or skateboarding the skate ramp in our backyard,” says his dad. “He has mixed culture of French living and an American way of life.”
The video you see above was made back in December by Petole Films… and if it’s any indicator of the future of Maui surfers, things are going to go wild.
