The Inertia

Over two years ago I had an incredible opportunity. I heard last minute about an academic program at NYU that would allow me to spend a week in Cuba. I was in. And I did everything I could to make sure it happened.

Once there, I was psyched. Beyond the people, the art and culture, the weather, and the history, I was infatuated with the idea that being such a large island in the Caribbean, Cuba had miles and miles of unexplored coastline. And I knew I couldn’t be the only one.

In fact, just a year earlier Cozy and Jo from Salt & Silver made it to Cuba. It was one of many stops on their yearlong adventure through Latin America on a surfing culinary journey. They had so much fun hanging with local surfers and skateboarders that they returned in 2016 to film a short documentary called Slow Motion Island about their encounters and the surf/skate community. If the trailer is any indication, it looks like they stumbled upon a flourishing little community – against all odds.

Slow Motion Island will be released in its entirety in the fall of 2016. For more, check out Salt & Silver on Vimeo.
