Tidal bores are an interesting phenomenon. They’re formed as an incoming tide works its way up a river, which of course, is flowing in the opposite direction. The result can be some of the longest waves in the world–and from the looks of this video, some of the most crowded. But you know what? This is one of those rare cases in surfing where the more really is the merrier. “We have the best day of the friendship, which was held in the Pororoca,” FedeSurfCR said on Facebook.
According to the Federacion de Surf de Costa Rica, (who posted the video on their facebook page) the craziness took place in the Pororoca, a tidal bore on the Amazon.
It gets pretty wild–surfing tidal bores can be really dangerous. While it might look like a mellow wave, along the shore, it’s not uncommon for trees to be ripped out from the roots. But when there’s a wave this long, nothing else really matters.
