The Inertia

Surfers are now taking on the tasks formerly reserved for Hobbits. It’s cool, and it totally makes sense. At least this is “normal” coming from another creative installment of Air New Zealand’s in fligth safety videos. Yes, the Kiwis are keeping us informed and entertained in the pre-flight safety run down apropriately dubbed Safety Safari, all while touring the globe with some of its best surfers. From magical oxygen masks that drop out of the sky to the World Tour’s past 2 champions awkwardly stuffing their heads between their legs in some comfy first class recliners (also on the beach, because awesome) this is one of the most entertaining four minutes and fifty-five seconds of pre-take off speeches you’ll ever come across.

Alana Blanchard regulates on a cigarrette smoker and is creeped on multiple times (that guy on the moped totally has a shot with her). Anastasia Ashley still looks adorable even with an oxygen mask smothering her grill, and Mick and Medina execute a thrilling air eject to perfection. Now let’s rehash some golden moments:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we request your full attention as the current world number 2 demonstrates the safety features of this aircraft.”

Alana No Smoking

Smoking. Highly illegal aboard a commercial aircraft, also not cool since 1987. Get em, Alana.

Alana Beach Airplane seat

Business class seats: Easier to lug to the beach than fold out chairs.

Laird Foil Boarding

Because “Laird” and “safety” are two words I regularly use in the same sentence.
