The Inertia

Surf photographer and videographer Chris White lost his father and brother to depression. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, in the US, one in five adults will be diagnosed with some sort of mental illness in their lifetime, in Australia the number is one in four. If left unrecognized or untreated, in some cases mental illness can result in a person choosing to take their own life.

In an effort to both raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, Chris has created a photo book – called Dark Light – with his best images, along with personal stories about how the ocean has helped him to push through adversity. The aim is to show that a positive mindset can go a long way in overcoming life’s obstacles.

If the trailer is any indication, this book will be made up of some incredible imagery.

Dark Light is available now for pre-sale here. But in the product description, Chris encourages all who can attend the launch party on November 4th in Perth to do so. Funds raised at the launch will support beyondblue, an Australian non-profit that seeks to support individuals living with depression and anxiety.
