As anyone who surfs knows, getting held down can be an unpleasant experience. If you’re calm about the whole ordeal, it can be, well, not that bad. Still, 15 seconds can feel like an eternity. Here, at sizeable Uluwatu, the surfer in the opening scene takes a spill and gets the deep hold down. As the clock ticks, his board actually starts to tombstone. The videographers with the Surfers of Bali YouTube page were there to capture it. The unidentified surfer comes out okay but imagine if he’d taken a breath at the wrong time and then copped another one on the head? That’s when hold downs get real.
