The Inertia

Californians have been shooting out of 2020 with a bang. This winter’s produced its fair share of great days and the last week of the year has been nothing short of exceptional.

It’s a beautiful send-off, really, and it presents a paradox we can all relate to: Where the hell should I go? Should you shoot for the standards, deal with the crowds, and hope to pick off at least one of the day’s gems? Do you roll the dice on a spot where the waves might not be as good and cash in on no crowds? Do you wager your familiarity with a local spot on swinging in just as the right conditions come together? At least this week, there haven’t been many wrong answers. Like this session at an OC beach break that can only be described as the textbook definition of “fun.”

“It was hard to choose where to go,” local videographer Brent Weldon told The Inertia. He opted for a local favorite, hoping it would turn on. It did.

“Most spots were a lot bigger but this little beach break had some of the cleanest waves around,” Weldon says. He wasn’t the only one with that idea. “Guys like Brad Domke, Blair Conklin, Tony Morelli, Chris Waring, Mitchell Grant, and the local bodyboarders took full advantage. It was a fun day at a spot that does not break very often.”
