During the biggest storm of the year, João Kopke and Tomás Valente went to Downtown Lisbon and surfed some special waves. While the forecast leading up to Félix forced road and marina closures in Portugal, João Kopke saw an opportunity for adventure.
Félix brought strong wind and waves to the Portuguese coastline and João and his friend, longtime professional Freesurfer Tomás Valente, went to discover some new spots during the afternoon. They had a hunch this swell would wake up some hidden but surfable waves in an unusual area – Central Lisbon.
They found themselves at Cais das Colunas, a landmark Lisbon that’s normally filled with tourists. What they found and surfed is something you’d never expect to see in downtown Lisbon.
