The Inertia

Tim Bonython is headed home. In his latest short, the Sydney lensman eschews his typical slabs and big waves in favor of more sentimental fare. Yorkes catalogues a return to the home break of his youth.

“Every swell chase has a beginning. For me, it started in the early 1980s,” he explains in the caption. “Growing up in Adelaide, South Australia, I discovered the Yorke Peninsula at the age of 18. Just three hours from home, it opened my eyes to a world of adventure, road trips, weather charts, and the endless pursuit of perfect waves. It was here that my lifelong love affair with swell chasing began.”

Of course, being a Bonython short, there is still some fantastic surfing to be seen. While the the towering waves of Nazare or the heaving barrels of Shipstern Bluff are nowhere to be found, Yorkes has no shortage of fantastic waves. Marion Bay surfer Luke Sykora and a gaggle of up-and-coming Adelaide surfers get barreled and carve up technical waves in glorious slow motion, with sweeping vistas in the background.
