The Inertia

While most people ride a fish or maybe a longboard when they feel like mixing it up, Tom Wenger opts for something a little more on point, choosing to bring an old design back to life.

In this section from Nathan Oldfield’s Seaworthy, Tom paddles out on a 16 foot wooden “toothpick” board with sharp rails and a narrow tail. Similar to an alaia, the toothpick offers a smooth ride by reducing the friction between the board and the surface of the wave. Although the toothpick looks strange, you have to admit, it looks pretty fun… more fun than a trip to the dentist!
