When you have two North Shore locals and two Encinitas brothers on the roster, the future looks good. Why? Modern surfing’s ever-increasing technicality requires more and more “tweaking,” and grommets born and bred a stone’s throw away from a handful of the world’s best breaks have plenty opportunity to tweak away to their hearts’ content. And it shows. From cutbacks to aerials to barrels, and everything in between, Noah Beschen, Jake Marshall, Barron Mamiya, and Nick Marshall put on a performance that will leave you frothing over what’s to come.
Not sure how much stock you can put in these groms claiming this trip as the best they’ve ever taken (even though their youth limits that selection) given that it takes all four of them to collectively be older than Kelly Slater… But, that being said, we weren’t ripping like them at their age — what are we saying? We’re still not ripping anywhere close to them at our current age — so who knows.
