It’s been 15 years since the 2006 Search event at Barra de la Cruz. It was, without a doubt, one of the best contests in a long history of contests. It was a novelty event, a one-off of sorts, but it was so good it made the world sit up and take notice. And now, finally, Barra is on the CT again. The Corona Mexico Open presented by Quiksilver sounded the starting horn on August 10.
It’s the second-to-last stop on the schedule, and the Final 5 are who everyone’s eyes are on. A handful of surfers already punched their ticket through to the World Title-deciding event at Trestles in September, and only a few spots remain. The surfers are battling hard, and above are the top 10 scoring waves from the men’s seeding round.
Featuring Caio Ibelli, Peterson Crisanto, Mateus Herdy, Italo Ferreira, Jack Robinson, Kanoa Igarashi, Michel Bourez, Leonardo Fioravanti, and Ethan Ewing, it’s a look at just how hard these guys are surfing.
