The Inertia

The Gold Coast Pro was a welcome reprieve from the beginning of the Championship Tour season. After Bells Beach and Margaret River saw poor conditions and prolonged delays, Snapper Rocks finally delivered. In the afterglow of the event, surf influencer Noah Wallis paddled out into the Snapper’s famously chaotic lineup for his own chance at glory, as he recounted in his latest video.

His initial session was the expected Snapper madness: elbow-to-elbow crowds, drop-ins, and a hell of a lot of good waves. However, where things got interesting was that same evening, when he decided to try to beat the crowd in a sunset session that eventually became full-on night surfing. Unfortunately, even darkness wasn’t enough to tame the Snapper lineup.

“Here’s my honest opinion of Snapper Rocks: It’s 100 percent one of the best waves in Australia, but the crowd is so cooked,” summed up Wallis. “Everyone is fighting for waves. People are dropping in left and right. Even when it’s dark, you can still barely get a wave. Don’t get me wrong, it’s the sickest wave, but I would rather surf alone in average waves any day of the week.”
