The Inertia

If Baja is in your future, or any destination where you want to play and camp, then you might be interested in Toyota’s TRD Sport Trailer that was revealed at this year’s SEMA car show (which was virtual, of course, because everything during the pandemic was). People have made their own camping utility trailers from old Toyota truck beds before, but because of the recent popularity of overlanding, Toyota decided to debut its own at this year’s show.

The TRD Sport Trailer is a one-off concept at this point, with no price or release date as of yet. The brand seems to be simply gauging reaction. But this thing is loaded: it’s outfitted with a “remote-operated scissor lift” so it can be raised to carry more equipment. On top of the lift, users can install a roof-top tent and awning. Toyota included other overnight gear too, like a built-in toilet, refrigerator, water heater, water holding tanks, slide-out stove and sink as well as lighting.

Toyota is simply getting the concept out to the public at this point but here’s hoping the price point stays affordable because the durability and ease-of-use on the TRD Sport Trailer seems right in line with the quality most expect from the Toyota brand.
