So much footage has been coming out of California from this massive swell that it’s hard to sort through it all. Tidal waves in Ventura, flood warnings across the state, and Maverick’s coming to life like Godzilla rising from the depths.
However, in the past few days, it seems like roughly a third of the videos from this event have been from Black’s Beach in San Diego. According to YouTube page SoCal Surfer, the biggest sets were pushing 20-foot faces. “Big wave surfing in San Diego only happens a handful of times a year but when it does it’s a real treat,” read the caption to their latest post.
Meanwhile, surf footage mainstay Beefs T.V. watched Kalani Robb, Tyler Stanaland, Tanner Gudauskas and many more venture out into the same waves. “Those are not small” said Beefs filmer Chris Monroe as they oversaw the lineup from the cliffs above. That was a bit of an understatement for what happened when Kalani and Tyler geared up with soft-tops tot join in on the madness. Barrels abounded for a run of waves that will live on in the memories of Southern California surfers for years to come.
