Day one of the 2016 Billabong Pipe Masters concluded yesterday, and one thing’s for sure – it definitely didn’t look like Pipe. The remainder of the wait period isn’t looking all that promising either, unfortunately. There’s swell in the forecast, but with some unfavorable wind.
Especially when compared to last winter, the last few months on the North Shore have been unseasonably slow. It’s great for the non-locals who don’t have a taste for risking life and limb for the shot, but not so great for traveling pros, event organizers, or local chargers.
That’s not to say there haven’t been a few flashes of brilliance characteristic of the Seven Mile Miracle. Here, Brett Barley wrangles an Off the Wall beast that some are calling the best wave of November.
