The first half of Pipeline vet Jamie O’Brien’s latest vlog post has an edit in some moderate but respectable surf (by Pipeline standards). He then returned to land and laid in wait for conditions to improve.
In possibly the most relatable surf experience ever, Jamie seemingly spent the entire time in between sessions watching the cams and having an internal debate about whether it was worth going back out. “It’s one of those things, you just gotta get out there,” said O’Brien, as he did some quick surfer math on the shore. “Honestly, the best thing about right now is that it doesn’t look that good if you just pulled up and checked it, but if you sit here long enough, there’s really good ones.”
After watching a series of bombs go off over the reef (including some ridden by Mason Ho), JOB finally did return to the water. However, for all his calculations on shore, the experience in the water turned out to be a mixed bag. As we all know, surfer math is more of an art than a science.
