The Inertia

Kai Lenny spends a lot of time in the ocean. We’d wager that — even when you count in the hours he’s asleep — it’s almost 50/50 with time spent on land. So when Kai says “the biggest backwash he’s ever surfed”, it’s big backwash.  You might be wondering what a backwash wave is. “If there is a rocky cliff steep enough it bounces the waves’ energy back out to sea creating a massive collision with the oncoming breaking wave,” Kai explained. “Crazy fun, pretty dangerous but so much potential.”

And what better way to surf giant, warping backwash than with a whole bunch of friends who are equally as psyched as you? “Thankfully,” Kai wrote, “I have crazy friends!”
