The Inertia

“That was sick,” she said. “Who is that?”

“I don’t know. He’s got some style,” proving that even when you don’t know you’re watching Kelly Slater the guy will still stand out in a crowd. And on a giant wave. You’d almost expect a wave like Pe’ahi to be a bit of an equalizer – to quell a bit of the champ’s style. But he’s Kelly Slater and we often forget that the man’s superhuman abilities translate to superhuman waves also.

Over the weekend it was announced Slater would be competing in the Todos Santos Challenge as an alternate for the Big Wave Tour event. Not too long after that news had spread, a tweet from the WSL announced Kelly was opting to stay in Hawaii.

As it turns out, Slater wasn’t taking a day off, nor was he dodging heavy surf. “It’s amazing how big ‘small’ Jaws still is,” he shared on Instagram to wrap up the weekend.

Sure. Looks small enough, Kelly.
