The Inertia

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard participated in a high octane mission recently on the high seas as video, apparently released by the agency, shows a guardsman jump onto the submarine for a brief surf before pounding on the hatch. One of the smugglers emerges. The “semi-submersible” crafts are apparently being used to smuggle drugs across the border. This machine was reportedly in international waters of the Pacific when it was apprehended carrying a reported “17,000 pounds of cocaine, valued at about $232 million” by the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Munro.

Apprehending these outlaw subs is difficult for authorities as the crafts, often referred to as semi-submersibles,” will simply go underwater to avoid capture or dump the illegal haul altogether into the ocean.
