Freeze frame. John’s air looks higher, but Kelly’s is in the flats. So who did it better?
John John Florence is the greatest surfer in the world right now. Leave it to a braver man than I to question that and face the entire internet imploding on them.
The guy’s absolutely crushed it on the Australian leg – dazzling crowds and pulling out an equal 3rd at Snapper and Bells and a win at Margies.
Following Bells, everyone is still talking about that air. In the dying seconds of his Round 4 non-elimination matchup against Seabass and Mick Fanning, Fanning had the world champ needing a 9.3 to advance straight to the quarters. That’s when John went for broke:
It earned him a 9.93, and is easily the most talked about one-maneuver wave at Bells since Kelly’s full rotation in 2012. So, for comparison sake, why not revisit said wave? Thanks internet!
Different maneuvers, sure. But both hail marys that get the score. So what do you think? Was Kelly’s better? Was John’s? Tell us in the comments!
