The Inertia

I know what you’re thinking: “The Smith brothers are back in Namibia, clocking in more tube time in one session than most surfers would hope to stack in an entire lifetime.” That statement, though, is partially true. If you keep watching, you’ll notice Alex shifting to a sitting position mid-barrel, to where both feet are extended out in front of his body.

“The waves were so damn good in Africa that you could literally sit down and get a 15-second barrel,” said Alex. It’s a maneuver he likes to call Go-Kart barreling riding, a fitting name for a millennial, who like most, lived and breathed Mario Kart.

What’s so impressive about this clip is that, unlike most who end up in this awkward position, Alex carries on and continues to get barreled off his rocker. But it all just really goes to show how, one, what an incredible barrel rider Alex is, and, two, how insanely mechanical Skeleton Bay is to allow someone to carry out such sorcery.
