Getting caught inside sucks. Usually, though, it’s a just a few waves on the head and you’re back out there. Either that, or you’re doing the walk of shame, but either way, it could be worse. You could be Tom Forward.
“It was only our crew out there that day, just one team towing and Tommy swimming alone,” Cian Salmon of Thridlink Productions told Surfer. “Zac Haynes got the wave before the one in the clip. When we turned around, we saw Tommy about to take an 18-footer on the head.”
According to Salmon, Forward dove down, grabbed the bottom, and held on for dear life. After his ears blew up, he resurfaced in semi-ok condition. Rattled, but he’s Tom Forward–and a little 18-footer isn’t going to stop him.
