It’s pumping at Maho Beach in St. Maarten — and by pumping we mean spewing out at speeds up to 250 miles per hour from the jet engines a mere 30 feet away. The Caribbean island isn’t popular for its natural breaks creating perfect waves. However, adrenaline junkies are able to “enjoy” a manmade break in the way of the nearby Princess Juliana International Airport, the landing strip running perpendicular to a separating fence, offering a perfect handhold for those looking to let go a little.
As airliners prepare for takeoff, these thrill-seeking beach-goers line up along this chain fence, gripping onto it as the jet engines throw enough air their way to even lift them off the ground. What takes it to the next level is that the runway is only 7,546 feet long, meaning pilots literally rev their engines before takeoff.
