The Inertia

Leave it to Mason Ho to find a surprisingly rippable wave no matter what the conditions. Like a tropical truffle-hunting pig, the Ho family scion has a knack for finding and rooting out a break in the most dire conditions. This time, it was a unique wave, where chaotic, waist-high slop converged into a bizarre little wedge.

No, not that wedge, though this one was also a result of a peculiar convergence point between waves.

“This spot is interesting because two different waves connect with each other making a crazy clap of ocean,” explained the caption to Ho’s latest video on his YouTube channel. “You usually don’t want to be in the middle or around that part of the wave because it can feel like dynamite or break your board.”

And yet there he was, tearing it up. Though it’s hard to describe it as high-performance surfing, per se, Ho displays an impressive amount of skill navigating the chaos. He’s made a name for himself surfing waves that few others would even think to attempt, and this effort is no different.

Ho was aided in his quest by a brand-new …Lost Light speed II Puddle Jumper, as part of his longtime collaboration with Matt Biolos’ company. “The waves are pretty small and gutless so the extra fun board really helps,” added the caption.

Something tells me Mason doesn’t need all that much help.
