Nico Antic was one of four Australian shark attack victims over the course of 48 hours last week. After his death, Australian fishermen set out to hunt down the creature responsible and came back with a 330-pound bull shark.
The animal was caught Tuesday afternoon in Sydney Harbor, 65 feet offshore, near Clifton Gardens. “We were fishing fairly close to where that young boy was, unfortunately, bitten and then later died,” crew member Chris Allchin told News.com.au. “We could see that spot from where we were on the other side of the harbor, but in line with it.”
Allchin was joined on the expedition by Mark Judge, who Sky News identified as a former biker gang associate, and nine-year-old Micky Harlow-Davies. Allchin also described to the outlet the moment he hauled in the beast, saying, “It’s a little daunting because they are so strong that, honestly, I had two of my mates holding me to make sure I didn’t end up in the ocean with the sharks.”
The shark was donated to scientific research, as Sky News reports. While authorities did suspect that a bull shark was the species that attacked Antic, there are no reports of any evidence that this was in fact the same animal.
