Alex Megos is a beast. He is one of the best sport climbers on earth, but climbing is a strange pursuit. It’s a painful one, a dangerous one, one full of failure and frustration. That, however, is part of the game.
“Rotpunkt” means “redpoint” in English. Redpoint climbing is when a climber free-climbs a route on a lead after they’ve practiced it, and Patagonia’s film follows the method back to its roots in rural Bavaria’s climbing scene. It’s an interesting look at how it all began, and an even more interesting look at Megos’ career climbing large slabs of rock.
