If you’ve ever tried to surf with your eyes closed, you’ll have the tiniest inkling of what Derek Rabelo goes through when he paddles out. Born blind in Guarapari, Brazil, the 22-year-old decided at the age of 17 that he wanted to surf – and not only surf, but surf Pipeline. His journey has been well-documented, and on it, he has touched the lives of just about everyone he comes in contact with.
But Pipe’s not all he’s riding. Recently, the Derek showed up at the Kualoa Ranch on Oahu’s North Shore, and promptly climbed on the back of a bull. Along with the film crew that made Rabelo’s story into a film called Beyond Sight, Rabelo’s bull ride is slated to be a part of a new movie called Surfer Cowboys.
