Jojo the dolphin is a treasure of the Turks and Caicos. Literally. In 1989, the wild Atlantic bottlenose was declared a National Treasure by the government. Coming in at about 10 feet in length and weighing 880 pounds, he’s a big fella. The interesting thing about him, as evidenced by the video you see above, is that he’s super interested in humans.
According to the Turks and Caicos tourism board, back in 1981, a wildlife advocate named Dean Bernal took a trip to the Caribbean. It was there that he befriended a dolphin, who, at the time, was relatively young. Over the next few years, Bernal and the dolphin got to know each other pretty well, and Bernal ended up putting down roots.
Unfortunately, Jojo is easily recognizable because someone ran over him with a boat, leaving long, white scars across his back. And in January of 2018, a few lucky Subwingers (no explanation needed, right?) got the chance to swim alongside him.
